Troops strike terror networks, destroy secret clinic

Troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the Joint Task Force in the North West, have killed a suspected terrorist and dismantled a covert medical facility used by criminal groups during coordinated operations carried out between January 21 and 22.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the operation’s Media Information Officer, Captain David Adewusi, and shared via the Nigerian Army’s official X handle on Thursday night.

According to the statement, operatives of the 8 Division Garrison Strike Force, in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), engaged terrorists during a fighting patrol in Gundumi village, Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

“Troops of the 8 Division Garrison Strike Force and DSS assets on fighting patrol engaged terrorists in Gundumi Village,” the statement said, adding that “one of the terrorists was neutralised, while others escaped into the forest with gunshot wounds.”

The troops reportedly recovered six AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles from the scene.

In a separate operation, soldiers from 1 Brigade, working with the Headquarters JTF OPFY Mobile Strike Team, raided a hideout in the Bingi Forest following intelligence that wounded terrorists were being secretly treated there.

“Troops swiftly acted on credible intel that injured terrorists were receiving treatment in Bingi Forest,” the statement noted, adding that a makeshift medical facility used by the group was discovered and destroyed.

Captain Adewusi said the operation reflects the “unwavering determination and responsiveness” of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantle terrorist networks and improve security across the North West.
