US President Donald Trump on Thursday addressed visible bruising on his left hand, which was noticed during an event at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, Trump said he “clipped” his hand on a table and attributed the bruising to the side effects of taking daily aspirin for his heart.
“I’m very good,” Trump told a reporter when asked about his condition. “I clipped it on the table. I put cream on it. I would say take aspirin if you like your heart, but don’t take aspirin if you don’t want to have a little bruising. I take the big aspirin. And when you take the big aspirin, they tell you, you bruise.”
He added that his doctors had advised he did not need to take aspirin but said he preferred to take no chances. “That’s one of the side effects of taking aspirin,” he said.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt earlier acknowledged the bruising and cited the same explanation.
Trump, who will turn 80 in June and is the oldest person ever elected US president, has previously been seen with bruising on his hands during Oval Office events.
In an earlier interview with The Wall Street Journal, Trump explained that he takes aspirin to thin his blood, saying: “I don’t want thick blood pouring through my heart. I want nice, thin blood pouring through my heart. Does that make sense?”
