A massive fire outbreak erupted Saturday evening at the Amuwo Odofin Industrial Estate in the Mile 2 area of Lagos, prompting a swift response from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and other emergency teams.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the incident via its official X account around 8:30 PM, stating that personnel were actively attending to the blaze.
“Fire Alert! The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently attending to a Fire outbreak at Amuwo Odofin Industrial Estate, Mile 2, Lagos,” the post read.
“We’re assuring the public that we’re currently on top of the situation as the public need not to exercise fear,” it added.
Eyewitness accounts and social media videos circulating online showed thick plumes of smoke rising from the industrial zone, with flames visible engulfing structures in the densely packed estate known for manufacturing, warehousing, and small-to-medium enterprises.
Multiple reports described the fire as “massive” and “ravaging,” with several buildings affected as of late evening. Residents and nearby workers expressed alarm, urging caution in the vicinity.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation as of press time, with no official confirmation on the origin, whether electrical fault, industrial accident, or other factors common in Lagos’ industrial areas.
No immediate reports of casualties or injuries had emerged, though the full extent of property damage was still being assessed amid ongoing firefighting efforts.
The LSFRS, led by Controller General Margaret Adeseye, emphasized that responders were working diligently to contain the inferno and prevent further spread.
The agency has a network of stations across Lagos, including nearby units in Festac and Surulere, which likely mobilized quickly given the location’s accessibility along major routes like the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
Amuwo Odofin Industrial Estate, a key economic hub in the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, has experienced fire incidents in the past, often linked to storage of flammable materials, poor electrical infrastructure, or gas-related issues in manufacturing setups.
The outbreak adds to a recurring pattern of fire events in Lagos, where rapid urbanization, overcrowded facilities, and enforcement gaps continue to pose challenges despite improvements in emergency response under the current administration.
