“When this administration assumed office, we encountered a sector in deep distress,” Sani said, adding that treatment plants were idle and distribution networks badly damaged.

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has pledged to deliver 100 per cent water supply coverage across the state by late 2026, saying water production has risen from eight per cent to over 30 per cent under his administration.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the National Water Resources Institute at Government House, Kaduna, the governor said years of neglect had crippled the sector.

“When this administration assumed office, we encountered a sector in deep distress,” Sani said, adding that treatment plants were idle and distribution networks badly damaged.

He said the government responded with sweeping reforms and investments, revealing that ₦93bn to ₦100bn has been earmarked between 2024 and 2027 to ensure reliable access to clean water statewide.

According to him, over ₦5bn has been spent replacing vandalised pipes in Zaria and Kafanchan, while “a further ₦10bn investment in critical pipelines in Kaduna is ongoing”.

Sani also said ₦1.3bn electricity debts had been cleared to keep pumping stations running and confirmed that ₦900m in salary arrears owed to water corporation staff had been settled.

“We have also approved land for a mass housing project in Millennium City to support professionals safeguarding our water resources,” he added.

On sustainability, the governor announced plans to establish branches of the National Water Resources Institute in Zaria and Kachia, saying the centres would “bridge critical training gaps and strengthen manpower capacity”.
