The persons identified as Abubakar, also known as Bala Honourable, and Munnir Yahaya have been remanded after they were arraigned for giving false information over the killing of a housewife and her six children in Kano last weekend.
Abubakar and Yahaya who were residents of Dorayi Chiranci area of Kano where the multiple murders took place were arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting at Nomansland in Kano
Kano police command spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said in a statement posted on his Facebook handle on Friday that the two men were arraigned for giving false narratives to some media platforms on the gruesome murder of the mother and his children and the arrest of suspects linked to the killings.
Kiyawa said the two men falsely claimed to have seen the murder suspects at the crime scene and also helped in their arrest.
The Police spokesperson had also posted a video on the Facebook page in which Abubakar recanted his earlier claims and admitted that he lied during an interview with journalists.
“I am so sorry. Everything I said in that interview was a lie. I appeal to the public to pardon me for the lies I told,” Bala said.
On his part, Yahata Munnir, had told a media platform that he assisted in capturing one Umar, whom he alleged to be one of the suspects.
He claimed that Umar was captured after he returned to the house after Maghrib prayers, opened the lock and entered the premises.
But Kiyawa said Munnir misrepresented the facts, as the individual he mentioned had no connection to the crime.
Munnir was also seen admitting that the person apprehended was actually named Rabiu, not Umar as earlier claimed.
“I didn’t realize he was not involved when we held him. I apologize to him for this; it was a misunderstanding,” Munnir said.
The two men have been remanded in prison custody until February 4, 2026, for the continuation of their trial.
