The Federal Fire Service has successfully contained a residential fire at Suncity Estate, Galadima, Abuja, which was sparked by a lithium solar inverter system, protecting properties estimated at around ₦700 million.
In a Sunday statement, Paul Abraham, National Public Relations Officer and Head of Corporate Services, said the operation was a joint effort between the Federal Fire Service and the FCT Fire Service.
“Firefighting teams included personnel from the RED HOUSE Federal Fire Headquarters led by DSF Bolaji, the Apo Station team led by DSF Ogwuche, with the FCT Fire Service collaborating with the Federal Fire Service to extinguish the fire,” the statement said.
Abraham added that the swift response was prompted by residents alerting authorities to the incident.
“Thanks to the prompt alert from residents, fire officers managed to bring the blaze under control after an hour-long operation. Properties worth approximately ₦700 million were saved, and thankfully, no casualties were reported,” he stated.
The service warned the public on the safe installation, use, and upkeep of solar inverter systems.
“Only qualified technicians should be employed, and systems must be well ventilated and regularly checked to avoid overheating and potential fire hazards,” the statement advised.
