Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has accused Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, of turning himself into an “emergency opposition spokesman” after allegedly being snubbed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Fayose made the claim on Sunday, saying Makinde became openly critical of President Tinubu after receiving a cold reception during a recent visit to the Presidential Villa.
According to Fayose, Makinde’s critical comments about Tinubu at the birthday celebration of former Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, were driven by frustration following the failed visit.
Fayose said Makinde had earlier tried to manage the damage caused by his public criticism of the President, but was shocked by how he was treated during the Villa visit.
He claimed the visit marked the end of any chance of reconciliation between Makinde and President Tinubu, especially as the 2027 general elections approach.
Fayose also alleged that President Tinubu had made it clear that he would only support candidates of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Oyo State during the 2027 elections.
According to him, Makinde’s later remarks where he reportedly described Tinubu as a dictator while praising the government of former President Muhammadu Buhari were a reaction to the alleged rejection.
Fayose added that Makinde’s political future within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was uncertain.
He claimed that Makinde might end up supporting a candidate under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), adding that the PDP would not be available for him to use.
