Suspected bandits have killed a police inspector in Oyo State after attacking a police patrol team.

The attack happened on Saturday at the Budo Masalasi border area. The police officers were on routine patrol when armed men ambushed them and started shooting.

During the attack, one inspector was seriously injured and later died. Other officers were also wounded and were taken to a nearby hospital. Their condition has not yet been confirmed.

The name of the officer who died was not released because the police are yet to inform his family.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident. He said the Commissioner of Police has ordered a full investigation and a manhunt to arrest the attackers.

Ayanlade said some of the attackers were also injured by gunshots and that police officers are currently tracking them.

The police assured residents that security has been strengthened across the state to prevent further attacks. They also asked the public to remain calm and help by reporting anyone with gunshot injuries or suspicious behaviour to the nearest police station.

Residents of the area have expressed worry about increasing insecurity and have called on the government to improve security in border communities and major roads.
