Nollywood actress, filmmaker and producer Toyin Abraham has achieved a major career milestone with her directorial debut, Oversabi Aunty, which has officially grossed more than ₦1 billion at the box office, becoming the first Nollywood directorial debut to reach that landmark and the fourth highest-grossing Nigerian film of all time.
The feat was confirmed on Monday by distributor FilmOne Entertainment, which announced that Oversabi Aunty has earned ₦1,017,201,953 from cinema screenings across West Africa, with showings still continuing in select venues in the United Kingdom and planned roll-outs in the United States and Canada.
In a celebratory social media post, FilmOne wrote: “Can somebody say WORLD BEST for a REASON!!… ₦1 BILLION+ at the box office. First Nollywood directorial debut to hit ₦1 BILLION. 4th highest grossing Nollywood film of all time. West Africa, this is a full celebration!!! OVERSABI AUNTY still showing in cinemas nationwide in select cinemas in UK and is coming to USA and Canada soon.”**
Abraham, widely known for her on-screen charisma and entrepreneurial drive, took to Instagram to thank her supporters, writing: “Thank you GOD. Thank you Toyintitans. Thank you Nigerians. Thanks to my cast, my crew, Filmone, everyone… Oversabi Aunty to the world and still showing in cinemas near you.”
Released in Nigerian cinemas on December 29, 2025, Oversabi Aunty blends humour with social insight. It follows Toun, a self-righteous church usher whose obsessive desire to “fix” the lives of those around her backfires, turning family life into a chaotic but relatable moral exploration that has resonated deeply with audiences.
The film features an ensemble cast including Ngozi Ezeonu, Queen Nwokoye, Jemima Osunde, Mike Ezuruonye, Toyin Afolayan, Emeka Okoye and Femi Adebayo, among others, and marks a significant commercial breakthrough for Abraham as a director.
Oversabi Aunty now sits on the all-time Nollywood box office chart behind heavyweights like Funke Akindele’s Behind The Scenes, which has grossed over ₦2.4 billion, and Everybody Loves Jenifa, which passed the ₦1.8 billion mark last year.
