Nigeria the ‘worst’ on IShowSpeed’s African tour – Kunle Remi

Nollywood actor Kunle Remi has ranked Nigeria as the “worst” stop on American streamer IShowSpeed’s ongoing African tour, citing a lack of cultural depth and authenticity in Lagos.

IShowSpeed, who celebrated his 21st birthday in Nigeria this week with his YouTube subscribers hitting 50 million, arrived in Lagos last Wednesday as part of ‘Speed Does Africa’, a 28-day livestream tour across the continent that began on December 29, 2025. Nigeria was the 15th stop on the tour.

Sharing his thoughts on Instagram, Remi criticised how Lagos was presented during the livestream, arguing that the portrayal focused heavily on nightlife and superficial attractions rather than the “essence” of Nigerian culture.

“After watching IShowSpeed’s journey so far, Nigeria is the worst on my own list. We just really stripped Lagos naked. No be say anything dey under the clothes before sha,” he wrote.  “Seems like we have lost the essence of culture. Our truth! All we have is fake drinks, club and beggy beggy skills.”

Remi’s comments highlight concerns that international portrayals of Nigeria often emphasise entertainment and party culture, rather than the country’s rich heritage and social realities
