Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has advised interim manager Michael Carrick to be ready to hand over the coaching job to a more experienced manager, despite the team’s recent good results.
Neville spoke after Manchester United defeated Arsenal 3–2 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

He praised Carrick for doing well during a difficult period at the club but said United should still appoint a top-level manager next season, such as Thomas Tuchel or Carlo Ancelotti.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville described Carrick as calm, humble, and level-headed. He said Carrick’s main task was to steady the team, lift the mood of the players and fans, and improve performances.
Neville explained that many people in football believed success for Carrick would mean guiding the team through the season and possibly qualifying for European competition, before handing over to a more experienced coach.
He added that Manchester United have often made emotional decisions in recent years but praised the club for staying calm this time.
