The Confederation of African football has imposed heavy sanctions on the football federations, several players and officials of Morocco and Senegal following incidents that marred the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

In a statement released on its website, CAF revealed  the sanctions were imposed for multiple violations of the its Disciplinary Code.

Sanctions against Morocco

Moroccan star defender Achraf Hakimi was suspended for two official CAF matches, with one match suspended for a probationary period of one year, following unsporting behaviour.

Midfielder Ismaël Saibari received a three-match suspension and was fined USD 100,000 for his conduct.

CAF further fined the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football ( FRMF)

USD 200,000 for the inappropriate behaviour of stadium ball boys during the final.

USD 100,000 for the improper conduct of Moroccan players and technical staff, who invaded the VAR review area and obstructed the referee’s work, contrary to Articles 82 and 83 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.

USD 15,000 for the use of lasers by Moroccan supporters during the match.

Potest by Morocco

CAF said its  Disciplinary Board rejected the protest lodged by the FRMF regarding alleged violations by the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF) of Articles 82 and 84 of the Regulations of the Africa Cup of Nations, relating to the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 Final.

Sanctions against Senegal

Senegal received the following sanctions:

The Head Coach of the Senegalese national team, Pape Bouna Thiaw, was suspended for five official CAF matches for unsporting conduct. He was also fined USD 100,000.

Two Senegalese players were also punished for misconduct towards match officials. Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr were each suspended for two official CAF matches for unsporting behaviour towards the referee.

In addition, the FSF was fined a total of USD 615,000. This includes:

USD 300,000 for the improper conduct of Senegalese supporters, which brought the game into disrepute.

USD 300,000 for the unsporting conduct of players and technical staff, also deemed damaging to the image of the game.

USD 15,000 for team misconduct, after five Senegalese players received cautions during the match.
