Tragedy hits Super Eagles’ Samuel Chukwueze as he loses mother

Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze is mourning the death of his mother, who passed away after a brief illness, throwing the Nigerian football community into grief.

The sad news was made public by his brother, David Chukwueze, who shared a series of emotional messages on his Instagram story announcing the loss.

In one post, David wrote, “Can’t even post your picture to say RIP Mum.” In another, he added, “My forever love just left me without saying goodbye,” while a third message read, “You didn’t even carry your grandchild.”

The deeply personal tributes quickly drew sympathy messages from fans and well-wishers as news of the loss spread online.

Samuel Chukwueze, who recently featured for the Super Eagles at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where Nigeria finished third, is yet to publicly react to his mother’s death.

The tragedy comes at a painful time for the national team, as it follows closely on the heels of another loss within the Super Eagles camp. Earlier this week, team captain Wilfred Ndidi reportedly lost his father in a car accident.
