Two arraigned in Ibadan over alleged N4m visa fraud

Two persons, Victory Ehinmen,44, and Olaniyi Solanke, 48, on Thursday, appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan charged with N4 million visa fraud.
The defendants, whose addresses were not provided, pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Salewa Ahmed, told the court that the defendants allegedly conspired together with others at large to commit the offences.
Ahmed alleged that the defendants fraudulently obtained N4 million from one Modinat Olayode on the pretext of assisting her procure a work visa for her daughter, Barakat Olayode.
He also alleged that the defendants stole the sum of N4 million from the complainant Modinat.
Ahmed said the offences were committed sometime in September 2024 in Ibadan.
The offences, the prosecutor said, contravened the provisions of Sections 383, 390 (9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs M. M. Olagbenro-Adelaja admitted the defendants to N1 million bail each and with two sureties each in like sum.
Olagbenro-Adelaja, thereafter, adjourned the matter until April 2, for hearing.
