FCT: Police save 2 one-chance robbers from being beaten to death

The Police operatives rescued two suspected members of a notorious “one chance” robbery gang identified as Kefas Akaye and Uya Ugwowere from being mobbed to death in Utako area of Abuja on Thursday.
ThIS was revealed in a statement by the spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Command, (FCT) on Friday.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on 29th January 2026 at about 11:00am, when the Utako Police Division received a distress call that an angry crowd had apprehended and was assaulting two suspected criminals.
She added that police operatives swiftly responded to the scene and successfully rescued the suspects who are members of four-man gang of one chan from the mob.
Adeh added that investigations revealed that the two suspects are part of a four-man gang allegedly involved in “one chance” robbery operations within the FCT.
She added that findings also indicate that the suspects reportedly come into Abuja from Uke, Nasarawa State, to carry out their criminal activities.

She added that investigations are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
However, the police in the statement condemned acts of jungle justice and mob violence, warning that such actions often lead to the injury or death of innocent persons and can destroy vital evidence, making it harder to properly investigate crimes and bring all accomplices to justice.
The Command also urged urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, and to promptly report suspicious activities rather than taking the law into their own hands.
