Liverpool produced a commanding second-half performance to thrash Newcastle United 4-1 in their Premier League clash on Saturday night at Anfield.

Despite dominating early possession, the homers were stunned in the 36th minute when Anthony Gordon fired Newcastle ahead with a superb strike from the edge of the box.

The goal briefly silenced the home crowd and threatened to derail Liverpool’s control of the contest.

The response, however, was swift and emphatic. Hugo Ekitike drew Liverpool level in the 41st minute, reacting quickest to a loose ball inside the area before calmly finishing past Nick Pope.

Just two minutes later, the French forward struck again, completing a first-half turnaround with another sharp finish to send Liverpool into the break with a 2-1 lead.

Liverpool emerged after halftime with renewed intensity, pinning Newcastle deep and recycling possession patiently.

Their pressure paid off in the 67th minute when Florian Wirtz capitalised on defensive hesitation to slot home Liverpool’s third, effectively taking control of the match.

Newcastle attempted to respond through long-range efforts from Sandro Tonali and late substitutions by Eddie Howe, but they were repeatedly denied by a composed Liverpool defence and goalkeeper Alisson.

Mohamed Salah missed a gilt-edged chance late on, but Liverpool’s dominance was eventually reflected again in stoppage time.

In the 93rd minute, defender Ibrahima Konaté sealed the emphatic victory, pouncing on a loose ball from a corner and firing into the bottom corner to make it 4-1.
