The Commissioner of Police in Anambra, Ikioye Orutugu, held an urgent security meeting with area and tactical commanders in response to a sit-at-home order declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) for Monday, February 2, 2026.

At the meeting in Awka, Orutugu instructed police to increase intelligence-led patrols, surveillance, and proactive policing to protect lives and property.

IPOB had called for a lockdown of economic activities in Anambra, Abia, Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, and other areas, claiming it was in solidarity with Onitsha Main Market traders.

However, IPOB’s lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, said the order was fake and issued by someone using the name “Emma Powerful” without the group’s consent. He asked the public to ignore it.

The police commissioner urged residents to stay alert, united, and not fall for false information. He said the emergency meeting was to counter threats from non-state actors spreading fear and misinformation online.

Orutugu reassured that security measures are in place, and residents should report suspicious activities to the police. Officers from various security forces and a government security representative attended the meeting.

The Anambra State Government also confirmed that Onitsha Main Market will reopen on Monday, assuring traders and residents of full security.
