Residents were assured of adequate security and encouraged to report any concerns by calling 511
Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has announced that Onitsha Main Market will reopen on Monday, February 2.
The market had been closed by the government because traders were still observing the Monday sit-at-home order.
A statement from the state Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, said:
“The closure of Onitsha Main Market, ordered by Governor Soludo, ends this weekend. All traders are to resume business as usual on Monday, February 2, 2026, as there is no longer any Monday sit-at-home in Anambra State.”
The statement also reminded civil servants and teachers that the pro rata salary system is still in effect—no work on Monday means no pay. Parents are advised to send their children to school on Mondays to avoid penalties.
