NMDPRA raises alarm over recruitment scams targeting Nigerians

According to NMDPRA, the fraudsters issue fake appointment letters, advertise roles that do not exist and demand large sums of money from unsuspecting applicants, particularly targeting economically vulnerable citizens.
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has cautioned Nigerians against circulating claims that it is conducting a recruitment exercise, describing the reports as false and fraudulent.
In a statement shared on its official X account on Monday, the authority said the clarification became necessary after reports emerged that scam syndicates were exploiting job seekers by promoting fictitious employment opportunities in the agency.
According to NMDPRA, the fraudsters issue fake appointment letters, advertise roles that do not exist and demand large sums of money from unsuspecting applicants, particularly targeting economically vulnerable citizens.
The authority stressed that it is not recruiting at any level, adding that any genuine employment process would strictly follow the laid-down regulations guiding recruitment into the Nigerian public service.
“We wish to state categorically that the NMDPRA is NOT conducting any recruitment exercise currently,” the statement read.
“Neither is the Agency undertaking any kind of employment in its services at any level,” it added.
NMDPRA advised members of the public to disregard all unofficial recruitment adverts and to rely solely on its recognised communication platforms for verified information.
“For current and up-to-date information regarding all our activities, kindly refer to our official corporate website: www.nmdpra.gov.ng
and our verified social media outlets on Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram,” the statement added.
The authority warned that such fraudulent schemes not only financially harm citizens but also undermine the credibility of the agency, urging Nigerians to remain vigilant and report suspicious recruitment claims.
