Ogun State has recorded a major fiscal milestone, generating about ₦250 billion in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) by the end of 2025, Governor Dapo Abiodun announced on Tuesday.

The governor disclosed this during a statewide broadcast to mark the 50th anniversary of the creation of Ogun State, describing the revenue growth as evidence of sustained economic reforms, improved governance, and rising investor confidence.

Abiodun said Ogun’s IGR had grown sharply from about ₦52 billion in 2020 to approximately ₦250 billion in 2025, noting that the expansion reflects a broader transformation of the state’s economy, now estimated at ₦17 trillion.

According to him, political stability, inclusive governance, and religious tolerance have helped create a peaceful environment attractive to investors, while Ogun’s strategic location and expanding industrial base have positioned it as one of Nigeria’s leading economic hubs.

The governor said his administration had backed revenue growth with aggressive infrastructure investment, including the construction and rehabilitation of over 1,600 kilometres of roads across the state.

He added that the Gateway International Airport has been completed and certified, while projects such as the Kajola and Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Ports, alongside plans for the Olokola Deep Sea Port, are expected to further boost economic activity.

Abiodun stressed that education remains central to the state’s identity, describing Ogun as Nigeria’s education capital with a high concentration of federal, state and private tertiary institutions supporting human capital development.

Reflecting on the state’s 50-year journey since its creation on February 3, 1976, the governor paid tribute to past leaders and pioneers who laid the foundation for growth, while acknowledging Ogun’s reputation as a “fountain of excellence” that has produced leading national and global figures.

He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, praying for continued wisdom as he leads the country at a time when several states are marking their golden jubilees.

While celebrating the revenue milestone and other achievements, Abiodun urged residents, especially the youth, to remain united and committed to sustaining Ogun’s progress, describing the Golden Jubilee as both a celebration of legacy and a call to renewal.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparent, inclusive and people-centred governance, pledging to consolidate gains in revenue, infrastructure and social development in the years ahead.
