Two suspects who allegedly specialized in the snatching of motorcycles for suspected kidnappers have been arrested by operatives of Edo State Security Corps (ESSC).

The suspects simply identified as Yusuf and Zubairu, were arrested in the forest of Uromi, Esan North East Local Government area of the State.

The Deputy Commander of ESSC, Richard Balogun, disclosed this to journalists on Tuesday in Benin City.

Balogun disclosed that the suspects are members of syndicates that specialized in the stealing of motorcycles in the Edo Central senatorial district after which they will send them to the kidnappers in the forest.

According to him, after receiving the motorcycles, the suspected kidnappers use them as a means of transport to come to the town to buy food and to also collect ransom from the victims’ families.

The ESSC, Deputy Commander, Operations who said security operatives have been on the trail of the suspects, added that they were however, arrested after a tip-off.

He said before the arrest, the suspects had already stolen over eight motorcycles for suspected kidnappers in the locality, but they were arrested before they could convey another four stolen motorcycles in one day to the suspected kidnappers in the forest.

Balogun disclosed that the suspects have since been handed over to the police authorities for further investigation and necessary action

He also disclosed that the Security Corps have put in place intensive foot and motorised patrols in the Edo Central senatorial districts to curb activities of kidnappers and other criminals in the area.
