Lafarge Africa Plc has announced plans to increase its cement production capacity through expansion projects at its Sagamu Cement Plant in Ogun State and Ashaka Cement Plant in Gombe State.
In a notice to the Nigerian Exchange Limited and the investing public, signed by the company secretary, Adewunmi Alode, the firm said the projects would significantly strengthen local cement production.
The new facilities will operate as dry plants, equipped with preheater kilns, vertical raw mills and roller presses for cement mills to enhance energy efficiency.
According to the disclosure, the expansion of the Ashaka Cement Plant is expected to raise production capacity to 2 million metric tonnes per annum, while the Sagamu Cement Plant will be expanded to 3.5 million metric tonnes per annum upon completion.
The company said the increased capacity would improve product availability and enable it to serve customers more efficiently across key markets.
The development follows last year’s announcement that Huaxin Building Materials Group acquired 83.81 per cent of Lafarge Africa Plc, a move the company said underscores its long-term commitment to Nigeria’s infrastructure development.
Commenting on the expansion, the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge Africa Plc, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, said the projects reflect the company’s confidence in Nigeria’s growth prospects and its determination to support the country’s construction and infrastructure needs.
He explained that the initiative goes beyond boosting output, delivering operational and sustainability benefits while creating value for customers and shareholders. According to him, the projects will also contribute to economic activity and job creation within host communities and the wider construction ecosystem.
“The expansion of our plants is a strategic investment that reinforces Lafarge Africa’s role in supporting national development,” Alade-Akinyemi said.
“By increasing capacity at our flagship plants, we are strengthening our supply chain, improving our responsiveness to market demand, and positioning the business to better support critical sectors such as housing, commercial construction and infrastructure.”
He added that the integration of modern production technologies would enhance efficiency, reliability and environmental performance, in line with the company’s commitment to responsible operations.
Lafarge Africa Plc said it remains focused on disciplined execution of its expansion plans and sustained engagement with stakeholders as it continues to invest in strengthening its operations across Nigeria.
