It was a tragedy too much when three sisters died after they allegedly jumped off the ninth floor of their residential building in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, India.
Police sources ruled out the victims being addicted to a task-based Korean online gaming app and that they were influenced by Korean culture, INDIA TODAY reported on Wednesday.
Among the last words they reportedly uttered were: “Sorry, papa. I am feeling very, very alone.”
The incident was said to have taken place around 2 am on Wednesday.
It was initially believed that the suicide of the three sisters – aged 12, 14, and 16 – was linked to an unidentified Korean task-based gaming app.
However, police later ruled out a gaming angle and said the victims were influenced by Korean culture and entertainment in their diary.
In their diary, the girls wrote that they loved Korean culture and mentioned their likings, such as K-Pop culture, Korean movies, Korean music, Korean short films, Korean shows and Korean series, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Trans-Hindon, Nimish Patil said.
The official also said the parents had objected to their daughters watching such content and had taken away their phones, and that the move prompted the girls to take the extreme step.
“A suicide note was found. The three girls were influenced by Korean culture, including cinema, music and some games.
“They were having mobile addiction. When the family members barred the use of phones, they took the extreme step. They have not gone to school for the past two to three years,” he said.
The girls’ father, Chetan Kumar, has five children from his two marriages and all of them lived together.
Of the three victims, one was the daughter of his first wife, while two were daughters of the man’s second wife.
Both the wives are sisters, with Chetan having married his first wife’s sibling after his first wife was unable to conceive initially.
