Police react as hoodlums vandalise ADC secretariat in Edo

Police have confirmed that the state secretariat of African Democratic Party (ADC) State Secretariat in Benin City, Edo State was vandalised by hoodlums on Wednesday.

Eno Ikoedem, the spokesperson of Edo Command in a statement on Thursday said police received information about the invasion and attack on the ADC secretariat by hoodlums at about 8.55 pm on Wednesday.

Ikoedem said the hoodlums damaged flags and shattered windows in the premises of ADC before they left.

She added that security has since been beefed up in the area to forestall further attacks, while investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible.

The Police statement partly reads: “The incident occurred at about 2055hrs. Following a distress call received from the Control Room, Benin, reporting that suspected hoodlums had invaded the party’s premises and were destroying properties. Police operatives were immediately mobilised to the scene to restore normalcy.

“Preliminary assessment revealed malicious damage to flags and two shattered windows in the premises. Security has since been deployed to the area to forestall further attacks, while investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible.

“The command appreciates the prompt call that was made to the Control room which saved the day, encourages everyone in distress to do same through its dedicated lines and warns miscreants against such heinous act as anyone found culpable will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
