The Southern Governors’ Forum has condemned the recent deadly attack in Kwara State and called on security agencies to swiftly apprehend those responsible.

The forum commiserated with the government and people of Kwara State over the incident, which reportedly claimed at least 162 lives in the villages of Woro and Nuku in Kaiama Local Government Area.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Chairman of the forum and Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, described the attack as tragic and unacceptable, noting that innocent citizens were killed while carrying out their lawful activities.

The governors also expressed condolences to the Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and the affected communities.

According to the statement, homes and shops were destroyed during the assault, while several residents were reportedly kidnapped by the attackers believed to be linked to extremist elements.

Abiodun emphasised that Nigeria is a secular state that guarantees freedom of religion and warned against any attempt to impose religious practices through violence.

He urged law enforcement agencies to intensify operations, track down the perpetrators, and ensure they face the full weight of the law.

“This senseless violence must be stopped. Nigerians deserve to live without fear, and those behind this heinous act must be brought to justice,” the statement read.
