A Lagos-based female sales manager, Isiaka Adijat, and her alleged accomplice, Modupe Ojo, have been arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos Island, for allegedly defrauding their employer of N70 million.

The defendants were arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Department (FID), Force Headquarters Annex, Obalende, Lagos, following a complaint by the employer, Alhaja Fausat Morenikeji Yusuf.

According to the police, the complainant entrusted Adijat, her sales manager, with her shop located at 243 and 245 Agege Motor Road, Mushin, Lagos, stocked with goods valued at several millions of naira, before travelling abroad.

Investigations revealed that before Yusuf returned to Nigeria, Adijat allegedly sold goods belonging to her employer valued at N70 million and failed to remit the proceeds into the company’s account, allegedly converting the funds to her personal use.

Police further alleged that Adijat diverted N20 million of the proceeds through the bank account of her accomplice, Modupe Ojo, and used the total sum of N70 million to build a mansion in her village in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The defendants were charged on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

Police prosecuting counsel, Friday Mameh, told the court that the offences were committed between 2022 and 2024 at the complainant’s shop in Mushin, Lagos.

He said the defendants betrayed the trust reposed in them by selling goods worth N70 million and allegedly converting the proceeds for personal use.

Mameh added that the offences are punishable under Sections 287 and 328(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs Gbajumo Ayoku, granted each defendant bail in the sum of N3.5 million with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until 27 March, 2026 for continuation of trial.
