The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has firmly denied widespread reports claiming that Atlas Lions head coach, Walid Regragui, has resigned from his position following Morocco’s defeat in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has firmly denied widespread reports claiming that Atlas Lions head coach, Walid Regragui, has resigned from his position following Morocco’s defeat in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final.

In an official response issued amid mounting speculation, the federation described the resignation reports as false and unfounded, insisting that Regragui remains in charge of the Moroccan national team.

The denial followed earlier claims by some foreign media outlets suggesting that the 50-year-old coach had offered to step down after Morocco failed to clinch the continental title. However, the FRMF moved swiftly to shut down the narrative, stating categorically that no resignation had been submitted by the coach.

Football reports had linked the alleged move to fatigue following the AFCON campaign, which ended in heartbreak for the North African giants after their narrow loss to Senegal in the final.

Fresh reports also indicate that speculation intensified due to previous remarks by Regragui, where he hinted he could consider stepping down if Morocco failed to win the tournament.

But in a decisive pushback, the Moroccan FA reiterated its confidence in the coach, stressing the need for stability as the country prepares for upcoming competitions, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Separate reports further confirmed that the federation “categorically denies” circulating claims about the coach’s exit, reaffirming that Regragui remains a central figure in Morocco’s football project despite the recent AFCON disappointment.

Regragui, who has been in charge since 2022, is widely credited with transforming Moroccan football, most notably guiding the team to a historic semi-final finish at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the best ever by an African nation.
