West Ham United boosted their Premier League survival hopes after defeating Burnley 2-0 at Turf Moor on Saturday in a result that piles more pressure on the struggling hosts.

The Hammers struck early through Crysencio Summerville before Taty Castellanos doubled the lead in the first half to hand the London side a crucial victory in their fight to stay in the top flight.

West Ham started with urgency and took the lead in the 13th minute when Mateus Fernandes won possession in midfield, drove forward and released Summerville, who calmly chipped the ball over goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka.

The visitors doubled their advantage 13 minutes later following another brilliant attacking move. Summerville was again involved before El Hadji Malick Diouf delivered a pinpoint cross for Castellanos, who powered a header past Dúbravka.

Burnley responded strongly and actually dominated large spells of the game, creating several chances and outshooting West Ham in the first half, but goalkeeper Mads Hermansen produced a series of important saves to keep the visitors ahead.

The home side piled on pressure after the break, creating multiple chances in quick succession, but desperate defending from West Ham, combined with more solid goalkeeping, kept Burnley from getting back into the contest.

West Ham created a few chances of their own on the counter, with Summerville and Jarrod Bowen going close, but their main focus remained protecting their two-goal advantage.

Burnley continued to push late into stoppage time, but West Ham’s defence held firm to secure a vital three points.
