IPOB also cautioned residents against possible false-flag operations or intimidation by opponents seeking to create confusion or unrest, urging the public to remain vigilant, calm and law-abiding.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced the permanent cancellation of the long-standing Monday sit-at-home directive across the South-East Nigeria, with effect from Monday.

The group said the directive followed a clear instruction from its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who urged residents of the region to resume normal life without fear, intimidation or coercion.

Vanguard quoted a statement issued on Sunday by IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, as saying that the group declared that all economic and social activities must return to full operation, stressing that the era of compulsory Monday shutdowns had come to an end.

“All markets, schools, offices, transport services and economic activities must resume fully and normally from tomorrow. The era of Monday sit-at-home is over,” the statement said.

Powerful warned that any individual or group attempting to enforce the sit-at-home order going forward would be acting against Kanu’s directive and the broader Biafran cause.

He described such actions as deliberate efforts to undermine IPOB’s leadership and misrepresent its position.

IPOB also cautioned residents against possible false-flag operations or intimidation by opponents seeking to create confusion or unrest, urging the public to remain vigilant, calm and law-abiding.

The group further stated that no state governor or authority has the right to threaten, harass or shut down the businesses of traders who choose to operate on Mondays, adding that such actions would be unlawful.

Addressing market-related disputes, IPOB stressed that any proposed market renovation or relocation must involve the consent of stakeholders and include the provision of temporary trading spaces before work begins.

The organisation called on parents to ensure that children return to school and encouraged residents across the South-East to resume normal activities, reaffirming its commitment to unity, freedom, dignity and justice.
