Senate hails Tinubu’s halal economy drive

The Senate has praised the Federal Government for launching Nigeria’s National Halal Economy Strategy, saying the policy could help the country tap into the estimated $7.7 trillion global halal market and broaden its economy.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Sani Musa, said the initiative is timely, noting Nigeria’s strong agricultural base, large population and growing manufacturing and services sectors.
He said the strategy supports the government’s wider economic reforms, including non-oil revenue generation, export growth, job creation, SME development and improved foreign exchange earnings.
Senator Musa assured President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the Committee’s legislative backing to ensure proper implementation, clear regulation and fiscal discipline.
According to him, several countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have successfully used halal frameworks to boost trade and investment.
The Committee added that Nigeria’s halal strategy is inclusive, market-led and globally focused, aimed at improving standards and competitiveness while respecting the country’s diversity.
