Two persons were reported dead in a head on collision between speeding two vehicles at Lisa Village, along the Alamutu axis of Abeokuta-Igboora Expressway, Ogun State on Saturday.
The accident, which occurred at approximately 2:45pm, involved an unregistered white Volvo truck and an unregistered white Cabstar mini-truck, Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) said in a statement by its spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi.
Akinbiyi quoted eyewitnesses in the statement as saying both vehicles were traveling at high speeds.
The driver of the Cabstar mini truck reportedly hit a pothole, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, leading to a violent head-on collision with the oncoming Volvo truck.
The TRACE spokesperson added that out of the four occupants involved in the crash (three males and one female), two were confirmed dead at the scene- one male and one female.
He added that no other injuries were reported among the remaining passengers.
Akinbiyi added that operatives of TRACE arrived at the scene within ten minutes to manage the resulting gridlock and prevent secondary accidents.
They were joined by the Nigeria Police (Papa Oscar) to assist with the investigation.
The bodies of the deceased were recovered from the wreckage of the Cabstar truck and handed over to their families for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Traffic authorities, however, urged motorists to exercise caution and maintain moderate speeds, especially when navigating sections of the expressway with known road defects.
