The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State has commended Governor Uba Sani and security agencies for their efforts in securing the release of Christian worshippers who were kidnapped in Kurmin Wali.

Hundreds of churchgoers were abducted on Sunday, January 18, 2026, from three churches in Kurmin Wali and were taken into the forest by armed bandits.

The incident had caused widespread fear among residents and raised concerns about security in the area.

In a statement, the Chairman of CAN in Chikun, Rev. Aminu Ayuka, praised the government and security personnel for their prompt action, which led to the safe return of the abducted worshippers.

He described the rescue as a relief for the community and a demonstration of the state government’s commitment to protecting lives.

Rev. Ayuka also appealed to Christian youths to refrain from engaging in violent acts that could harm the unity and development of Chikun Local Government and Kaduna State as a whole.

He said, “We are grateful to Governor Uba Sani for the ongoing development projects in our area and the relative peace we are enjoying.

We continue to pray for God’s protection and wisdom for him as he leads the state. We also pray that God intervenes to end the menace of banditry and kidnappings in Chikun Local Government and across Kaduna State.”

The CAN chairman further urged pastors to educate their congregations about the ongoing voter registration exercises. He stressed the importance of participating in civic activities that promote peace, unity, and community development.

The successful rescue has been welcomed by residents, who expressed relief that their loved ones were returned safely and called for sustained security measures to prevent future abductions.
