Rivers Crisis: Wike confirms Tinubu’s intervention, issues final warning to Fubara

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has confirmed that President Bola Tinubu intervened in the lingering political crisis between Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara and the State House of Assembly.

Wike spoke on Tuesday while addressing journalists in Abuja.

He disclosed that this would be the second and final time the President would step into the dispute between the governor and the lawmakers.

According to Wike, Tinubu stepped in as a father figure to stabilise the situation in the state.

His comments followed reports that Tinubu, Wike and Fubara met on Sunday night at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

There were also claims that after the meeting, Fubara followed Wike to his residence to plead and seek reconciliation in a bid to resolve the crisis.

Reacting, Wike said the President acted out of concern for the peace and stability of Rivers State.

“He is very kind to the people of the state, if there seems to be any problem between the legislature and the governor, as a father he really has to intervene.

“This is the second time Mr President is intervening and I believe by the grace of God that this will be the last time Mr President will intervene and I have told them to obey Mr President and I know that they would not hesitate.

“And I know that the governor would carry out his own part to make sure that this is the final time that Rivers people will hear this kind of discord,” Wike said.
