Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 2026 African Union (AU) Summit.
The information was shared on Thursday in a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President.
The theme of this year’s summit is “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.” The meeting will focus on improving water supply, sanitation, and supporting Africa’s long-term development goals under the AU’s Agenda 2063 plan.
While in Ethiopia, Shettima will attend the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of AU Heads of State and Government, as well as the 30th General Assembly, scheduled to hold on February 14 and 15.
He is also expected to take part in important side meetings and hold discussions with political and business leaders. These meetings are aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic, economic, and strategic relationships with other African countries.
According to the statement, the Vice President is traveling with some cabinet ministers and senior government officials. He will return to Nigeria after completing his official duties at the summit.
