In a political environment where public trust is often fragile and expectations remain high, effective representation is measured not by promises made during campaigns but by tangible outcomes delivered to the people. For Hon. (Dr.) Prince Olaide Lateef Mohammed (POLAM), the Member of the House of Representatives representing Irepo/Orelope/Olorunsogo Federal Constituency, the story of his tenure so far has been defined by visible impact, human development, and a deliberate commitment to grassroots transformation.

As his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, I have had a front-row seat to the workings of his office. What has become increasingly clear is that defending his record against attempts at blackmail, misinformation, or deliberate downplaying of his efforts has not required rhetoric or emotional appeals. Instead, the facts speak loudly, and the results speak even louder.

In just two years and a few months in the National Assembly, Hon. POLAM has facilitated critical Federal Government projects across the three local government areas that make up our constituency. Kishi in Irepo Local Government has benefited from five federal projects, while Igboho in Orelope and Igbeti in Olorunsogo have each attracted four federal projects. These projects are not symbolic gestures; they are functional interventions designed to improve infrastructure, expand opportunities, and enhance the quality of life for constituents.

Representation, however, goes beyond physical infrastructure. One of the most profound ways to uplift communities is by creating pathways for individuals to secure stable livelihoods. So far, Hon. POLAM has facilitated employment opportunities for 53 constituents across various Federal Government agencies. Each of these opportunities represents more than a job; it represents dignity, economic stability, and hope for families.

Education, too, has remained a cornerstone of his intervention strategy. By awarding 35 full scholarships to deserving constituents, he has invested in the intellectual and professional future of the constituency. Additionally, the distribution of over 200 JAMB forms and educational materials—including school bags, textbooks, and mathematical sets—to primary school pupils reflects a recognition that sustainable development begins with empowering the next generation.

Empowerment initiatives under his leadership have also been extensive and inclusive. Two constituents received ₦1,000,000 each to support their ventures, while over 220 constituents benefited from ₦200,000 cash grants. More than 240 others received ₦100,000 grants, and over 800 constituents received grants ranging from ₦40,000 to ₦50,000. These interventions have supported small businesses, strengthened local economies, and enabled families to rebuild and grow.

Beyond financial grants, practical empowerment tools have been distributed to enhance productivity and economic participation. Twenty brand-new motorcycles were donated to constituents, alongside five vehicles, while farmers received agricultural equipment and resources to boost food production and economic resilience. Millions of naira have also been donated to organisations and individuals, further strengthening community structures.

Infrastructure development has also received significant attention. More than 500 solar-powered streetlights have been installed across various communities within Irepo, Orelope, and Olorunsogo. These installations have improved security, enhanced night-time economic activities, and provided safer environments for residents.

These interventions collectively reflect a leadership approach rooted in service, accessibility, and responsiveness to the needs of the people. Importantly, every initiative has been carefully documented to ensure transparency and accountability.

It is important to acknowledge a universal truth in public life: leadership does not require universal approval to be effective. Personal opinions and political preferences will always vary. History reminds us that even the most revered figures faced criticism and opposition. What ultimately matters is not the volume of criticism but the weight of impact.

Hon. POLAM’s record demonstrates a clear focus on development, empowerment, and opportunity creation. His work reflects an understanding that representation is not merely about occupying an office but about using that office as a platform to improve lives.

Looking ahead, the journey is far from over. More infrastructure projects are underway. Additional empowerment programmes are being prepared. New employment opportunities are being pursued. Educational support initiatives are being expanded. These efforts reflect not a completed mission, but an ongoing commitment to service.

For those who have already benefited, these interventions represent meaningful change. For those who are yet to benefit, they represent hope. Development, by its nature, is progressive and cumulative.

Ultimately, the true measure of representation lies in the lives touched, the opportunities created, and the legacy built. In Irepo, Orelope, and Olorunsogo, the unfolding story suggests that representation, when driven by purpose and guided by commitment, can indeed become a powerful force for transformation.
