Speaking in a recent interview with Complex, the “I’m Geekin” rapper disclosed that he has a non-negotiable rule: he will never buy a gift for a woman he is dating unless he has already purchased something of equal or greater value for his mother first.
DDG, who famously dated The Little Mermaid star Halle Bailey, explained that spending heavily on a partner before taking care of his mother “feels wrong.” He emphasized that while he is often perceived as a big spender, his generosity follows a clear hierarchy.
“Before I ever bought a watch for a girlfriend, I had already bought one for my mum. The same applies to bigger gifts like cars, which I have purchased multiple times for her,” the rapper stated.
Despite his wealth, the rapper made it clear that his financial support for partners has limits. While he is happy to splurge on lavish dates and travel, he does not believe in certain “traditional” celebrity spending habits:
