EPL: Tudor takes charge at Tottenham after Frank’s sacking

Tottenham Hotspur have appointed Igor Tudor as their interim manager until the end of the season.
Tottenham Hotspur have appointed Igor Tudor as their interim manager until the end of the season.
The 47-year-old replaces Thomas Frank, who was sacked on Wednesday after a poor run of results. Tottenham are currently just five points above the Premier League relegation zone.
Tudor and the club agreed on the deal on Friday, and it was officially confirmed on Saturday.
Tudor said he is honoured to join the club at a difficult time. He promised to bring more consistency to the team and compete strongly in every match. He believes there is good quality in the squad and said his job is to organise the team, motivate the players, and improve results quickly.
Before joining Tottenham, Tudor managed Juventus. Last season, he helped them finish fourth in Serie A after losing only one of his first 11 matches. However, this season did not go well, and he was sacked in October after an eight-game winless run left the club in eighth place.
Tudor has also coached Lazio, Marseille, Verona, Hajduk Split, Galatasaray, and Udinese.
Frank was removed one day after Tottenham lost 2-1 to Newcastle United. He had won only two of his last 17 league matches.
Tottenham’s sporting director, Johan Lange, said Tudor brings experience and strong leadership during difficult moments. The club’s main aim now is to improve performances and compete well in both the Premier League and the Champions League.
Tottenham have reached the last 16 of the Champions League, which is their only bright spot this season. However, they are also fighting to avoid relegation for the first time since the 1976–77 season.
The players have been given time off until Monday because the club has no match this weekend after their FA Cup exit in January.
Tudor’s first big test will be the north London derby against league leaders Arsenal on February 22.
