The family of 22‑year‑old Nigerian student and e‑hailing driver Isaac David Satlat has spoken, describing his brutal murder in Pretoria West, South Africa, as a “devastating blow,” and appealing for urgent help to repatriate his body home for burial.

Satlat, who was studying mobile engineering and was due to graduate next month, was killed after picking up passengers who had requested his ride on February 11. His hijacked vehicle and body were discovered later the same day in Atteridgeville.

Speaking to the media, his uncle and family spokesperson, Otila Onoja, said the tragedy had left relatives in Nigeria reeling with grief.

“He was supposed to graduate next month, his life, his dreams, all cut short,” Onoja said. “We need urgent help to bring his body home so he can be laid to rest in his hometown. This is very heartbreaking for us.”

The case has intensified concerns over the safety of Nigerian expatriates working abroad, particularly those juggling education and gig-economy jobs in high-risk environments.

South African police have confirmed the arrest of a woman in connection with the killing. She is expected to appear in court on charges including hijacking and murder, and authorities indicated that further arrests are likely as investigations continue.

The story has sparked outrage within the Nigerian community both at home and abroad, with widespread calls for justice for Isaac David Satlat and greater protection for Nigerians working overseas.
