Abuja-based singer Ifunanya Nwangene, popularly known as Nanyah, has been buried in her hometown in Enugu, bringing to a close days of mourning by family, friends and fans.

The 26-year-old artiste reportedly died last month after a snake bite at her residence in Abuja.

Her final rites began with a service of songs at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Abule Oshun, Lagos, where loved ones gathered in an emotional farewell filled with hymns and tributes.

A requiem mass followed on February 12, while family members and well-wishers held a candlelight wake the next day at the Nwangene family compound in Enugu.

She was laid to rest on Saturday in her hometown, as community members gathered to pay their last respects during the interment ceremony.

A thanksgiving service scheduled for February 15 is expected to formally conclude the burial activities.

Friends and relatives had earlier honoured her at a tribute organised by the Amemuso Choir, where her life and passion for music were celebrated through songs and shared memories.

Though not a mainstream chart-topping artiste, Nanyah built a loyal fan base online, with close to 40,000 followers on Instagram. Her music blended classical, jazz, R&B and soul influences.

She was a graduate of University of Nigeria, where she served as choir mistress at St Mulumba’s Catholic Chaplaincy. She was also a member of the Amemuso Choir and once competed on The Voice Nigeria.
