Adekoya explained that the Police Care Initiative builds on the success of the recently launched Drivers’ Care Programme, which began at Lillypond Terminal, Apapa, and subsequently moved through Eleko Junction and Obalende before concluding its first phase at Iyana-Iba Park.

No fewer than 1,000 police officers in Lagos State have benefited from the Sanwo-Olu Police Care Initiative, a targeted medical outreach programme aimed at improving the health and welfare of security personnel.

The initiative, which commenced on Friday at the Police Headquarters in Ikeja, provided officers with free eye screening, prescription glasses and general health checks.

Fully funded by the Lagos State Government, the programme forms part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s broader strategy to strengthen institutions responsible for safeguarding lives and property.

Speaking after the outreach, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation and Logistics, Hon. Hassan Adekoya, said the extension of the programme to police officers followed a request by the Inspector General of Police, in recognition of the critical role officers play in maintaining law and order across the state.

Adekoya explained that the Police Care Initiative builds on the success of the recently launched Drivers’ Care Programme, which began at Lillypond Terminal, Apapa, and subsequently moved through Eleko Junction and Obalende before concluding its first phase at Iyana-Iba Park.

The Drivers’ Care Programme targets 10,000 professional drivers across Lagos, offering free eye screening and prescription glasses, complimentary drug testing and sensitisation, as well as free Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI) cards.

According to Adekoya, extending the initiative to police officers underscores the state government’s appreciation of the indispensable role of security personnel in protecting residents and sustaining public order.

He added that ensuring officers are medically fit enhances operational efficiency and strengthens the overall security architecture of Lagos.

With the successful completion of the 1,000-officer target, the state government reaffirmed its commitment to sustained, welfare-driven interventions designed to directly support those who serve the public.
