The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has confirmed it is investigating a viral social media video in which a young woman recounted a sexual assault she suffered at her residence.
In an official statement, the agency said it has seen the reports and is actively working to reach the survivor to provide immediate support, intervention, and safety assistance. The statement also urged anyone with credible information that could help locate her safely to contact the agency through its official social media channels.
“The Lagos State Government maintains a zero-tolerance stance against all forms of Domestic and Sexual Violence,” the statement read. “Sexual assault is a crime, and every survivor deserves protection, care, support, and justice. We encourage survivors to speak up and assure the public that reports are treated with utmost confidentiality and urgency.”
The incident shared by the survivor detailed how she, an orphan struggling with insomnia, was unable to sleep unless under the influence of alcohol or substances. On the day in question, she was under the influence when an unknown person knocked on her door. Believing it to be a neighbour, she opened the door, only to be assaulted by the intruder. The survivor recounted the physical struggle and eventual assault, emphasizing the trauma she endured.
