Leaked videos: Ghana govt drags Russian ambassador over scandal, exposes critical detail about suspect
Quick Read
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ghana has summoned Russian Ambassador to Ghana, Sergei Berdnikov, over a viral nude video scandal involving Ghanaian women.
Government of Ghana has summoned the Russian Ambassador, Sergei Berdnikov, over a viral scandal involving the alleged unlawful release of explicit images of Ghanaian women online.
The move, led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ghana, was to formally register the government’s anger and demand cooperation from Russia to track down the suspect behind the leak.
The case has triggered widespread outrage after videos linked to a man widely identified online as “Yaytseslav” began circulating on social media earlier this month.
Some international reports have linked the identity to a Russian blogger accused of secretly recording intimate encounters and distributing them online for profit, with dozens of alleged victims said to have filed complaints.
However, Ghanaian authorities say the suspect’s true identity and nationality remain unconfirmed.
During the diplomatic meeting, Ambassador Berdnikov reportedly acknowledged the violation of the victims’ privacy and dignity but said Russia could not verify whether the individual is actually Russian.
Officials also disclosed that the name circulating online may not be a real Russian name but rather a vulgar expression in the language.
Despite the uncertainty, the Russian Embassy has pledged to cooperate with Ghanaian authorities as investigations continue, even though there is no formal extradition treaty between both countries.
Meanwhile, some reports say the suspect may have already left Ghana, raising concerns about how quickly justice can be pursued through international legal channels.
