Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Edward Ogundoyin, on Tuesday celebrated his 39th birthday with a legacy project, commissioning and handing over a newly constructed secondary school in Temidire Community, Ibarapa East Local Government Area, to the Oyo State Government.
The project was inaugurated on behalf of Governor Seyi Makinde by the Commissioner for Education, Olusegun Olayiwola, at a ceremony attended by government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders, party members and residents.
Addressing the gathering, Ogundoyin described the project as a historic intervention for Temidire and neighbouring villages, noting that the absence of a secondary school had long hindered educational progress in the area.

He revealed that no fewer than fourteen surrounding villages, despite having at least fourteen primary schools, lacked a single secondary school for graduating pupils.
The speaker said as a result, students were forced to travel to Oloke in Ogun State or to Eruwa to continue their education, a situation that imposed financial strain on families, exposed students to safety risks and contributed to school dropouts.
“Today’s event is not just about commissioning structures; it is about fulfilling a promise, restoring hope, and securing the future of our children. Promise made, promise kept,” the Speaker said.
The new school consists of two blocks of three well-ventilated classrooms each, totalling six classrooms. Each block includes staff offices and a Principal’s office to facilitate effective administration. A separate structure housing two modern toilet facilities was also constructed to ensure hygiene and sanitation.
The facility has been fully furnished to create a conducive learning environment and is expected to begin academic activities in September with its first set of students.
Ogundoyin described the coincidence of the commissioning with his birthday as a “double celebration,” stating that investing in education was the most meaningful way to mark the occasion.
He reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots development, disclosing that another secondary school project at Ojonamo in Lanlate is nearing completion, while the Maya Town Hall project is at an advanced stage.
The Speaker also listed other interventions across Ibarapa East, including a functional Primary Health Centre at Lagaye, a mosque at Oloro, completion of the Eruwa Youth Movement Secretariat, construction of a cold room for butchers, sinking of about 40 boreholes, facilitation of employment opportunities, students’ bursary awards and empowerment programmes.
Ogundoyin thanked the Temidire community for its cooperation and patience during the project execution and commended the contractors for delivering quality work in line with approved standards.
He urged parents, teachers and students to protect the facility, stressing that education remains the most powerful tool for societal transformation and sustainable development.
