Police launch probe as East London woman found dead

Police in East London have launch a probe following the death of a 74-year-old woman in Newham.

The deceased’s body was discovered in a house on St George’s Square, in the Forest Gate area, shortly after 12.35pm Tuesday.

According to MyLondon, officers responding to reports of a death attempted to provide first aid but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased’s name is yet to be made public.

However, her next-of-kin are receiving specialist support from the Metropolitan Police.

The magazine quoted police statement as informing that a 44-year-old man was arrested at the property on suspicion of murder.

He has since remained in custody.

Chief Superintendent Dan Card, who leads policing in Newham, said: “This is an incredibly sad incident in which a woman has lost her life, and our hearts go out to her family and friends.

“Officers are continuing to work with care and determination to understand the full circumstances of what happened.

“A man, believed to be known to the woman, is in custody, and this is being treated as an isolated incident.”

A crime scene remains in place while detectives continue to carry out enquiries.
