The Kano State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all entertainment centres in the state for the Ramadan fasting period.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by Abdullahi Sulaiman, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Censorship Board.

According to the statement, the order affects entertainment places commonly known as gala houses, as well as disc jockey (DJ) operators under the board’s control.

The closure will begin at 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, and will last until the end of Ramadan.

Sulaiman said the decision was taken to create a peaceful and morally suitable environment for Muslims to observe the holy month without distractions.

He explained that all entertainment activities supervised by the board will remain suspended throughout the fasting period. The reopening date, especially for Eid celebrations, will be announced later.

The board warned owners of the affected centres and DJs to obey the directive. It added that enforcement teams will monitor compliance, and anyone who breaks the rule will face penalties.

The agency also clarified that the decision is part of its responsibility to regulate entertainment activities and maintain social order during religious seasons.

However, the board stated that the directive does not apply to event centres used for weddings, conferences, or political gatherings.

Usman Dankwano, a director at the board, stressed that only entertainment outlets like gala houses under the board’s authority are affected. He said event centres are not under the board’s control and that some people misunderstood the directive.
