Police in Ondo have confirmed that gunmen assassinated Oba Kehinde Falodun, the Alagamọ of the Agamọ community in Akure North Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Thursday in Akure, noting that the attack occurred on Wednesday at approximately 7:10 p.m.
Jimoh explained that the report reached the police around 7:50 p.m., conveyed by community leader High Chief Ajewole Clement of New Town, Itaogbolu.
He said the account revealed that roughly six armed men stormed the monarch’s residence, forcibly removed him from his compound, and fled the scene.
“The victim was later discovered a few metres away, bearing gunshot injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Immediately upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), alongside tactical teams from the command, mobilised officers in conjunction with local security groups.
“Atuluse Security, local hunters, and Amotekun operatives also participated in searching surrounding bushes and neighbouring areas in an effort to apprehend the perpetrators. Efforts remain ongoing to locate and arrest the fleeing suspects.
“Monitoring and surveillance operations have been heightened throughout the area to safeguard residents and prevent any further disruption of law and order.
“The public is assured that no stone will be left unturned in bringing those responsible for this heinous act to justice,” he added.
He urged members of the public possessing credible and actionable information to report immediately to the nearest police station or contact the command directly.
