Police have said the traditional ruler of Agamo town, Ondo State, Oba Kehinde Jacob Faledon, who was killed on Tuesday evening was first abducted by about six masked men who later murdered him.
“Preliminary investigations reveal that approximately six masked armed men stormed the residence of the monarch, forcibly abducted him from his compound, and violently attacked him, leading to his death,” DSP Aayomi Jimoh, the spokesperson of Ondo Police Command said in a statement on Friday.
The statement was issued following the visit of Ondo Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, to Agamo town, where Oba Faledon was attacked on 18th February 2026, at about 7:10 p.m. on Thursday.
Other heads of security agencies in Ondo, including the Commander, 32 Brigade Artillery of Nigeria Army; the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC); and the Director, Department of State Services were also in the entourage of the Police Commissioner.
Jimoh added that following an on-the-spot assessment, CP Lawal proceeded to the palace of the deceased monarch, where he condoled with the family and the entire community over the unfortunate incident.
He quoted the police commissioner as assuring that the Command, in synergy with other security agencies, would spare no effort in ensuring that the perpetrators are identified, apprehended, and brought to justice.
Jimoh said the commissioner of Police has ordered the immediate deployment of additional security personnel and operational assets to the community, including the Command’s Tactical Teams, with a clear mandate to track down and apprehend the suspects.
“The Commissioner further emphasized that effective policing is best achieved through synergy, vigilance, and active collaboration between the Police and the public. He therefore urged residents to promptly volunteer credible and actionable information that can aid ongoing investigations and enhance community safety.
“The Command remains resolute and assures the good people of Ondo State that it will continue to work tirelessly to ensure peace, stability, and justice across all communities.
