The Ogun State Police Command has taken TikToker Abigail Nsuka, popularly known as Mirabel, into custody as investigations continue, the state’s Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye, confirmed on X.

Mirabel, a popular TikTok creator, made headlines after she alleged she was sexually assaulted in her apartment.

The claim quickly went viral, drawing widespread attention on social media and prompting intervention from government agencies, including the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA).

Following the allegation, Mirabel and two of her friends went live on TikTok, sharing her account details to receive support, insisting they were “not begging for money.” A neighbour later publicly disputed her claims, and Mirabel admitted to Nigerian influencer Martins Vincent Otse (VeryDarkMan) that her allegation was false, citing panic attacks.

In her statement on Friday, Commissioner Adeleye said that after initial medical attention and care, Mirabel was handed back to the Ogun State Police to enable them to conclude their investigation. “She remains a victim of an alleged crime unless and until the outcome of the investigation determines otherwise,” the commissioner wrote.

She urged the public to remain calm and allow authorities to carry out their duties “professionally, thoroughly, and without interference,” warning that speculation or premature conclusions could undermine due process.

The commissioner added that at the conclusion of the investigation, anyone found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with Nigerian law, reaffirming the government’s commitment to justice, due process, and the rule of law.

The police have also issued a public advisory reminding citizens that giving false information to authorities or spreading unverified reports online is a criminal offence under the Nigerian Criminal Code Act and the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, punishable by fines, imprisonment, or both.
