Why I avoided acting – Oga Bello’s son

Sodiq Adebayo

Quick Read

Speaking during a recent interview on Nollywood on Radio, Adebayo recounted that the turning point came years ago during a trip to Ilorin with his father and a late colleague, Alhaji Rasheed.

Nollywood production manager Sodiq Adebayo has disclosed how a conversation with his father, veteran actor Adebayo Salami, popularly known as Oga Bello, influenced his decision to pursue a career in film production management.

Speaking during a recent interview on Nollywood on Radio, Adebayo recounted that the turning point came years ago during a trip to Ilorin with his father and a late colleague, Alhaji Rasheed.

According to him, he had asked his father which aspect of filmmaking he considered the most challenging. Salami responded that directing could be difficult because of its technical demands and also mentioned production management.

Adebayo said his father expressed doubt about whether he could handle the role, a remark that motivated him to prove himself.

He explained that the comment stayed with him and pushed him to learn more about the field. He subsequently met filmmaker Lasun Ray Eyiwunmi, whom he understudied, and also sought guidance from his brother, Femi, before fully venturing into the profession.

The production manager added that his interest in the role was driven by passion rather than financial gain.

He also revealed that although he once considered acting, his personality made him prefer working behind the scenes instead of appearing in front of the camera, despite being the son of a popular actor.
