Hollywood mourns the passing of Eric Dane, the beloved star of Grey’s Anatomy, who succumbed to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) at the age of 53.
Known for his iconic portrayal of Dr. Mark “McSteamy” Sloan, Dane’s death has left a profound void in the entertainment industry, with tributes pouring in from colleagues, fans, and friends worldwide.
In a final, deeply personal message, Dane addressed his teenage daughters, Billie, 15, and Georgia, 14, sharing words of love, resilience, and life lessons that are now touching millions.
The message, recorded months before his passing for Netflix’s Famous Last Words series in November 2025, was kept private until after his death.
“Billie and Georgia, these words are for you. I tried. I stumbled sometimes, but I tried. Overall, we had a blast, didn’t we?” Dane said, reflecting on cherished family moments. He fondly remembered watching his daughters play in the ocean, calling them his “water babies” and describing those days as heaven.
In the interview, Eric Dane imparted lessons from his battle with ALS. He urged his daughters to live in the present, find love and joy in their lives, and choose their friends wisely. “Finally, fight with every ounce of your being and with dignity. When you face challenges, health or otherwise, fight. Never give up. Fight until your last breath. This disease is slowly taking my body, but it will never take my spirit,” he said.
He concluded with a moving declaration of love: “Billie and Georgia, you are my heart. You are my everything. Good night. I love you. Those are my last words.”
Dane’s family confirmed his passing on February 19, 2026, stating that he spent his final days surrounded by friends, his devoted wife, and his daughters, who were at the center of his world. They also highlighted his advocacy for ALS awareness and research, emphasizing the impact he sought to make for others facing the disease.
